The Maryland Office of Transportation (MDOT) claims the new barriers is a shorter-term alternative to the site visitors issues alongside the busy highway.
FREDERICK, Md. — Crews from the Maryland Office of Transportation (MDOT) commenced setting up a guardrail alongside Route 15 in Frederick, Md. Sunday evening right after a tanker truck carrying gasoline exploded alongside Apple Avenue on Mar. 4.
MDOT knowledgeable inhabitants throughout a group assembly on Wednesday evening that the new barrier was a limited-term remedy to the ongoing traffic difficulties together the hectic freeway.
“Owing to the major mother nature of this crash and the gap left driving by the elimination of the tree, we experimented with to expedite the assessment,” reported Andrew Radcliffe, an MDOT District Engineer to the group.
MDOT advised residents they are also assessing other segments together Route 15 that could have to have a barrier.

Ronald Heiston Jr., 58, of Smithsburg, Maryland veered off the highway and crashed into a tree together Apple Avenue which finished in an explosion. The tree was the only matter that stopped the tanker truck from crashing into the properties in the location.

Neighbors close to the explosion scene have set up signs that say “We want a wall to defend our family members and our homes.”
MDOT states construction on a seem barrier could start by the Fall of 2026. The condition agency is also setting up on widening the highway by adding a 3rd lane in each way.
“We could have saved the income for the guard rail and the fence they are heading to finally build and just place up a wall,” reported Bynaker who has started out a petition and has been gathering signatures to expedite the procedure of developing the wall.
